Algarve restaurants shine at the relaunch of the Repsol Guide

With 194 restaurants honoured, the Repsol Guide awarded Suns to 70 establishments across Portugal

After a nine-year hiatus, the Repsol Guide has returned to Portugal, with a focus on modernity and a mission to boost the Iberian gastronomy.

The first Gala dos Sóis (Sun Gala) was held at the Convento de São Francisco in Santarém. The awards ceremony saw a total of 194 Portuguese restaurants be recommended, with 70 receiving one, two and three Suns.

In the Algarve, eight restaurants were awarded: Ocean (3 suns), Bon Bon (2 suns), Vista (2 suns), Vila Joya (2 suns), Al Sud (2 suns), Austa (1 sun), Gusto (1 sun), Henrique Leis (1 sun), Näpéron (1 sun) and Veneza (1 sun).

Repsol describes this list as a selection of “classic restaurants, as well as restaurants operated by young chefs, covering the entire Portuguese territory, including Madeira and the Azores”.

Three Suns were awarded to Belcanto (Lisbon), Ocean (Porches), Il Gallo D’Oro (Funchal) and The Yeatman (Vila Nova de Gaia).

Two Suns were awarded to Al Sud (Odiáxere), Alma (Lisbon), Bon Bon (Carvoeiro), Casa de Chá da Boa Nova (Matosinhos), Cura (Lisbon), Euskalduna Studio (Porto), Feitoria (Lisbon), Fifty Seconds (Lisbon), Herdade do Esporão (Reguengos de Monsaraz), Le Monument (Porto), Marlene, (Lisbon), Mesa de Lemos (Viseu), Pedro Lemos restaurant (Porto), Ó Balcão (Santarém), Vila Joya (Albufeira), Vista (Portimão) and William (Funchal).

The Guia Repsol (Repsol Guide) was published in Portugal from 1989 to 2016 and has been Spain’s leading restaurant guide for over four decades.
