The Algarve’s hospitality sector gains new momentum, with new openings and prestigious accolades from Forbes


New five-star beachside hotel for VRSA

A new luxury beachside hotel has been announced for Praia da Lota in Vila Real de Santo António (VRSA).

With an investment of around €158 million, the five-star hotel will be built between 2025 and 2026 and is due to open in 2027.

The ambitious development is spearheaded by BodyHoliday, a renowned name in the Wellness and Spa tourism sector. The hotel will feature 220 rooms (40 single rooms, 160 double rooms, and 20 suites).

Guests will also have five restaurants at their disposal, as well as a wellness centre and spa featuring over 50 treatment and massage rooms, a gym equipped for Pilates, Spinning and Yoga, an indoor pool and three outdoor pools, and scenic gardens providing direct access to the beach via wooden boardwalks.

Kimpton Atlântico Algarve appoints general manager

Scheduled to open in the second quarter of this year, Kimpton Atlântico Algarve, part of Highgate Portugal’s management portfolio, is the first Kimpton-branded hotel in the country.

The brand recently announced Catarina Simões as general manager for the hotel. With a professional career spanning more than a decade, which began at Minor Hotels & Resorts, Catarina Simões has held different positions in various hotel groups such as Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spa, AVANI and Tivoli Hotels & Resorts.

With extensive experience in the international market, including Abu Dhabi, Malaysia, Maldives, Qatar, Vietnam and Tunisia, Catarina Simões has been in Portugal since 2023 and recently served as Assistant Director at Anantara Vilamoura Resort.

Conrad Algarve distinguished in Forbes Travel Guide

The luxury resort in Quinta do Lago has been awarded the prestigious Forbes 4-Star Hotel distinction by Forbes Travel Guide, the only global rating system for luxury hotels, restaurants, spas, and ocean cruises.

To attain this prestigious distinction, the hotel underwent an extensive evaluation process, including rigorous training programmes for all team members to ensure the highest service standards set by the Forbes Travel Guide inspectors were met.

“We couldn’t be prouder of this recognition, which reflects our dedication to offering our guests the most refined hospitality experience,” says Marco Cogollos, general manager of Conrad Algarve.
