Algarve produced 2 million litres of wine in 2024

The Algarve wine industry has achieved a milestone, producing nearly 2 million litres of wine in 2024 – the best result for the sector in 15 years.

According to Sara Silva, president of the Algarve Wine Commission (CVA), this represents a 20% increase compared to 2023.

In total, the CVA certified 1.98 million litres of wine in 2024, including wines with Denomination of Origin (Lagos, Portimão, Lagoa, and Tavira) and Geographic Indication Algarve.

An additional 100,000-200,000 litres of uncertified table wine also contributed to the total. These positive results are being linked to the growing number of winemakers in the region. The wine commission closed 2024 with 61 registered winemakers and the number has been growing by five or six on average every year.

Portugal in the spotlight at Wine Paris 2025

Portugal was one of the biggest exhibitors at Wine Paris 2025, the world’s leading wine and spirits trade fair which took place from February 10 to 12 in the French capital.

With a significant 61% increase in participation compared to 2024, Portugal was the second-largest international presence after Italy. Portugal’s delegation included 250 national producers, eight wine regions, and seven prominent individual exhibitors, coordinated by ViniPortugal, the organisation dedicated to promoting Portuguese wines abroad.

Over 3,000 Portuguese wine labels were available for tasting. Organised by Vinexposium, Wine Paris has solidified its position as the world’s premier gathering for the wine and spirits sector.

Wine at the core

Morgado do Quintão has created yet another series of cultural events with wine at the core. The Circle, which takes place every month, is “an exclusive community that unites neighbours, friends, and seekers of meaningful moments”, according to the winery.

The series will feature curated events, from wine tastings to intimate dinners and cultural gatherings, offering participants priority access to stays at the estate and bespoke experiences.

The next event is scheduled for March 10 with the theme “Crafting Basketry and Wine”. Tickets cost €53.
